What to do with breakages and emergencies
Braces are made from tough metal and ceramic but that doesn’t mean they’re indestructible. Accidents can happen and the brackets or arch wires of your fixed braces can break. Similar breakages can happen to removable braces as well.
What causes breakages?
- Eating hard, chewy or sticky foods
- Chewing on the ends of pens and pencils
- Biting nails
- Wearing the wrong mouth guard
It is important you avoid doing any of the above as breakages can affect your orthodontic treatment. Usually it will slow your treatment down but in some extreme cases it may mean your treatment has to be stopped altogether.
If any part of your braces break, contact us immediately so we can book you in to get it fixed as soon as possible.
Emergency appointments will be booked when slots are available.
If you have a problem which requires urgent clinical attention outside of practice hours, please call the practice on 01727 833304.
